This class is aimed at people who would like to learn the basics of Ashtanga yoga.
Ashtanga is a dynamic form of yoga and is intended to realign the spine, detoxify the body and build strength, flexibility and stamina.
The pranayama (breath) used in Ashtanga is called Ujjayi breathing, this breath is used in support of the yoga postures, moving from one pose to the next on an inhalation or an exhalation. The benefits: concentrates and directs the breath, giving asana practice extra power and focus, also increasing oxygen consumption.
There are 75 poses in the primary series of Ashtanga (1st series), starting with surya namaska A and B, which are known§ as sun salutations, moving onto standing poses, seated poses, inversions, back bends then finally a well earned period of relaxation.

The beginners class will consist of a selection of these poses, to build up ability and eventually progress to the more difficult poses throughout the classes journey.

There are many reasons for trying out Ashtanga yoga including: increased fitness, flexibility, increased concentration, improved posture and even weight loss. For those who are already sports people it can stretch and balance the muscle groups not used in your sport.

So if your one of those people who'd like to start a journey in yoga or just want to try out a different and dynamic form of yoga feel free to PM Nurture for further information.

The class will run every Wednesday from the 5th July, last class being on the 26th of July.
